Sinquefields help to found St. Louis Gift Pledge campaign
Rex and Jeanne Sinquefield are among the founders of the St. Louis Gift Pledge, a new campaign to encourage successful St. Louisans to make a significant gift of at least $1 million to a St. Louis charitable organization during their lifetime or in their will.
Sponsored by the St. Louis Community Foundation, the campaign’s goal is to publicize local giving and encourage more people to support St. Louis through philanthropy. In asking a group of St. Louisans to come forward with their intentions to give $1 million or more, the St. Louis Gift Pledge aims to inspire others to take action; to bring together those who value the impact St. Louis has had on their lives, and want to give back to our community; and to promote open conversations about philanthropy in the St. Louis area.
“Giving is something you do, and we’ve always made a point of supporting charities,” said Jeanne Sinquefield in a profile of the couple on the St. Louis Gift Pledge website. “It’s always been part of our budget, and the only thing that has changed over the years is how much there is to give.”
As noted in the profile, the Sinquefields support major St. Louis institutions like the St. Louis Symphony, the Botanical Garden, the St. Louis Art Museum, and St. Louis University, and also have developed and funded innovative projects based on their personal interests, such as the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis and the Mizzou New Music Initiative.
Other local organizations that already have benefited from the philanthropy of St. Louis Gift Pledge participants include COCA, College Bound, Contemporary Art Museum, Craft Alliance, Fontbonne University, Forest Park Forever, Jazz at the Bistro, Jewish Community Center, Jewish Federation, Jewish Food Pantry, KDHX Radio, Lift for Life Academy, St. Louis Zoo, The Sheldon, Washington University, and Webster University.
