Commitment to Education
Rex and Jeanne Sinquefield recognize the power of education. Given the right schooling options, children can look forward to bright futures, regardless of socioeconomic backgrounds.
At the heart of their Foundation is a desire to improve educational opportunities, ensuring that each individual child gets the support he or she needs to be successful.
A few programs supported by the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation:
The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation (TTEF), a nearly 20-year old organization, provides needs based tuition assistance scholarships to economically disadvantaged children throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis. TTEF funds and administers scholarships to allow disadvantaged families to send their children to schools of their choice, regardless of school affiliation.
UrbanFUTURE connects Saint Louis Public Schools, families and communities in impoverished urban areas. Among many things, the program provides after-school mentoring to promote literacy and character development.
The Sinquefields also appreciate and support the efforts of Teach for America, which aims to end inequity in schools by recruiting college graduates from all majors to work in urban and rural public schools. After receiving the necessary training and professional development, Teach for America members commit at least two years to teaching.
The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis, created by Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield, promotes expansion of scholastic chess through the programs of the club. Jeanne and Rex feel chess can acedemically challenge youth in a fun and social manner, allowing them to do better in the classroom and encourage engagement in afterschool and community events.
For 10 years, Jeanne and Rex have been proud sponsors of an annual event benefitting the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City, Missouri. The Special Learning Center provides comprehensive, early intervention services for children with disabilities and developmental delays.
