Six St. Louis-area Students Win COMPs

The winners of the University of Missouri’s annual state-wide COMP (Creating Original Music Project) contest for elementary school through high school have been announced; six of this year’s 22 winners are from St. Louis.
Each of the six and their schools won cash prizes, ranging from $200 to $1,000. The two high school students also get scholarships to this summer’s new-music camp at Mizzou. All of them will perform their original works this Saturday, April 21 at the COMP Festival on Mizzou’s campus in the Fine Arts Building.
Menea Vladi Kefalov & Ande Celeste Siegel of Reed Elementary School in Ladue.  First place in the Elementary Song with Words division for their piece titled “War.”   Music teacher: Sarah Schwartz.  They are repeat winners. They will be featured on Wednesday on “Show Me St. Louis” at 12:30pm on KSDK.
Anthony Delia of Holy Infant School in Ballwin. First place in the Middle School Popular Music division for “Words.”  Music teacher: Eric Henson.
Lileana Ibur of Wydown Middle School in Clayton. Second place in the Middle School Popular Music division for “Nothing Boy.” Music teachers: Aaron Doerr and Jerry Estes.  She is a repeat winner.  Lileana will perform on Wednesday live on FOX 2 at 9am.
Gus Knobbe of Webster Groves High School. First place in Fine Arts category for “Madness.” Music Teacher: Dane Williams.
Benedetto Colagiovanni of Clayton High School. First place in High School Jazz division for “Waltz For Bill.” Music Teachers: Rick Zelle and Alice Fasman. He is also a repeat winner.
